Sofia Coppola seems to be not just his dad’s daughter. With her third film - so unique and revolutionary, cowering over most directors today. A modern interpretation of the life of France's legendary teenage queen Marie Antoinette based on the book Marie Antoinette: The Journey by Antonia Fraser seems to become another Oscar-winning film –at least for best make up, decorations or music
The movie soundtrack consists of two disks, full of both classical and modern music. Like other soundtrack from her previous movie
”Lost in translation” this one proves to be no less dream-like. The first disc full of songs of 80-s with much fun in them like in the very first
"Hong Kong Garden" by Siouxsie & The Banshees. Many songs have a very specific sound – as if you are on the second floor of a large mansion, listening to the music, coming from the big hall if the first floor. The Strokes with their
"What Ever Happened" and
"Ceremony" by New Order add a fine brit poppish mood to the film, emphasizing its modern interpretation
Classical music goes together with bands from 80-s and brit pop guys, and Sofia Coppola picked up the pieces definitely worth listening like
"Concerto in G” by Antonio Vivaldi, or
"Les Baricades Misterieuses" by Francois Couperin. The most surprising thing for me was an instrumental melody by Air with Italian name
"Il Secondo Giorno. Did they write the music specially for the movie? The song
"Keen On Boys" by The Radio Dept is probably my favorite – at the very end of the second disc – a mix of the Air mild and dreamy sound, The Cure-like voice with the name, explaining the behavior of the teenage queen
